An Innovative Path for a Price-Board Design

Stroll through Krakow’s old market square, and I guarantee a “catcher” will hit you with an eager, “Maybe a City Tour for You?”
Attention, Attention!
In Krakow’s bustling city center, vendors offering sightseeing tours face fierce competition. To make a sale, employees must grab the customers’ attention, explain the offer, and—ideally—sell the tour they’ll be driving. The most important tool in their arsenal, besides the 6-seat golf car, is the price board. However, most price boards are hastily printed and laminated at home, giving off a cheap, forgettable vibe. This presented a clear opportunity to break through the noise. The solution? A bold, eye-catching design that doesn’t just display prices but demands attention. Flashy and engaging, it sparks curiosity, pulling tourists in and encouraging them to stop and learn more. This particular role belongs to the bright yellow front side of the board.
The front side of the price board always faces the customer being approached.
On top of engaging illustrations and typography, it features flags for the most popular tour languages and simple icons highlighting key service features. The back uses color coding to subtly suggest which parts of the city are covered within each time frame. For example, a 1.5-hour tour might include routes through the Old Town, Jewish Quarter, and Ghetto, each marked with a distinct color to visually support the offer explanation. The board is bilingual, making it accessible to both locals and tourists.
The Dragon of Wawel is a legendary symbol of Krakow. According to the legends, he once lived beneath Wawel Hill (where the Royal Castle stands) until he was outsmarted and fatally tricked by a weak, yet creative shoemaker. Moral? Ideas are power.
Innovation All The Way
I explored several print materials to ditch the flimsy, home-printed look. After testing options with the client, we landed on matte vinyl over 5mm PVC—durable, weatherproof, cost-effective, and, most importantly, a serious upgrade in appearance. I also proposed investing in matching t-shirts and business cards to boost trust, look pro, and drive more next-day bookings—he agreed.

More Than Results
Sales jumped 10% over the previous season, employee morale soared, and I received very positive feedback from industry insiders. For the last seven years, I’ve updated the pricing on the design annually, and when my client asked again recently, I took a moment to appreciate how long they’ve proudly used my work—and how much it meant for my own confidence. I gave it a refresh to match my current abilities. His response? "This is amazing! How am I ever going to repay you?!" — "We're good," I said. "Happy you like it."
